-Do you really want to understand why you can’t lose weight when you consume alcohol? Stay tuned. I’ll tell you about it. OK. Welcome back. Thanks for hanging in. My title is Mark Dressen. You’re viewing MDTV. I’m a personal trainer along with a sports scientist, and my function is to educate people regarding food, nutrition, fitness, and all this stuff, which are connected to your wellness. And today we’re talking about an extremely serious sort of topic, and that is alcoholic beverages. And I’m going to tell you a little later in the video, really shortly, about why alcohol prevents your fat loss and why you aren’t able to lose weight while you consume alcohol.

My top five in a minute. So I just want to talk about alcoholic beverages in itself. I’m going to give you a handful of facts, which I find it rather exciting and interesting. And the very first one is that the World Health Organization actually classifies alcohol being a drug. And that means that alcoholic beverages itself is, in the globe, the biggest legalized drug, that is pretty, actually really sad when you think it through. Also why is it a medication? Because you can get addicted. Then because you’re addicted to that medication, you need to go to the 12-step program or any sort of comparable program to get rid of it.

So it’s not a good thing. What else regarding alcohol? How is alcohol assessed? It’s measured in units, therefore one unit of alcohol equates to to 10 milliliters or eight grams of pure alcohol. And so what does that mean? That indicates, for example , a pint of ale has around three units of alcoholic beverages and holds a caloric worth or has around, I think, 180 calories. Now red wine, for example , a huge glass of red wine, so 250 milliliters of red wine, has a couple of, sometimes even four units associated with alcohol, and has a higher caloric worth around 220 calories. It is dependent, obviously, on which beer and which usually wine you’re drinking, but simply use that as a rule of browse.

The other thing, which I believe is quite interesting or good to know, is how your entire body metabolizes, or at which rate your body metabolizes alcohol, and that is in one unit per hour, which means you generally, if you drink a pint associated with beer, which has three units associated with alcohol, means it takes you 3 hours to get rid of that alcoholic beverages totally in your body.

But what that implies and what the effects are, I’m going to discuss a bit later. How does your body metabolize alcohol, or so how exactly does it get rid of it? There really are a couple of ways. One is inhaling and exhaling. The other one is urine. It could be your sweat, but most associated with the time it’s metabolized or even broken down in your liver. And what the effects are for your, I’m going to talk about in a 2nd as well. And the last the first is the guidelines in the UNITED KINGDOM for what they recommend of how a lot you should be drinking on a daily basis is for the male between three to 4 units, and for a woman, two to three units. Which if you request me as a trainer, I would nevertheless say that’s too much.

So exactly why can’t you lose weight while you consume alcohol, and how does alcohol affect your weight loss in general? Here are the top five. So number one is that alcoholic beverages itself carries a caloric value, meaning one gram of alcohol offers seven calories. So if you’re on the calorie diet, if you count your calories, means that whatever amount of alcoholic beverages you drink, you will need to include into your calorie account. So just to compare, carbohydrates plus protein have around four calorie consumption a gram, and fat offers nine calories a gram. So alcohol has seven. It’s someplace in the middle, so it includes a bit more than your normal french fries and the carbs you’re consuming. So that’s something you need to consider. And that affects your weight loss, because most of the period, I think 90% of people who were requested how much calories your beer offers, have no idea. So beer has close to 150, a pint of ale, 150 calories, and a glass associated with wine, a big glass of wines has around 200 to 220 calories. So this is something you will need to consider while you drink alcohol.

Number two, and this is, I think, the most important bit. I really want a person to understand this point, so be sure you pay attention. Another wink here. So alcohol has no nutritional value, which means your body cannot use it at all. So the first thing your body desires to do is get rid of this. Because it has no nutritional value indicates also your body cannot shop it. So what happens? As a person drink alcohol, it’s getting broken down simply by your liver, and now, let’s consider the liver, and this is the important bit I want you to get, because you’re going to realize in a second. Now your liver breaks down the alcohol, metabolizes it on a basis of one device per hour, breaks it down, that is fine.

That sounds good. Now the bad thing about it is the fact that the liver is also responsible for your fat metabolization. Means that your fat breakdown and that your person is able to utilize fat correctly also happens in the liver organ. Now as alcohol is a contaminant to your body, and your body wants to get rid of this as soon as possible, because we cannot shop it, means the liver may prioritize the breakdown of alcoholic beverages compared to the secondary character of what the liver will, which is breaking down the fat. So every time, as soon as alcohol enters your mouth, your fat metabolization associated with the liver will stop.

So alcoholic beverages switches on, and fat metabolization stops. And that’s crucial to understand as you’re on your weight loss journey. Every time a person drink alcohol, you will not be able to burn off fat. And if you think about it, if you experienced like, let’s say, two big portions of wine or three pints, that could be something like nine to 10 models of alcohol, which translates into kind of 10 hours of your entire body trying to get rid of this alcoholic beverages. In these 10 hours, your body cannot burn fat. So remember that, and I hope you understand at this point, in case you haven’t, just go back and listen to it again, because it is really important. Number three, alcohol is a toxin, so that as it is a toxin, it affects or even damages our stomach linings, the intestines, your kidneys, and your liver. Now why is that poor, and how does that affect your weight loss? Well, when you think about it, if you consume food, most of the time it will obtain broken down in your stomach a bit, then in the small intestinal tract, large intestine, and so on.

So in case these are sort of inflamed or not operating properly, your body will not be capable to function at the complete capacity, because all the minerals and vitamins and everything you need that your digestive function works properly happens in all of those organs. So if they’re not really functioning or malfunctioning, that is a sign for diseases, or the floodgates open, and you’re getting even worse and worse and worse. Now the liver is one of, I might say, the most amazing internal organs in your body, because is actually able to regenerate itself to 100% in a life or within a cycle of 30 days. So if your liver is broken to 50% to 70%, your body can repair that liver organ to 100% of fully working again, which is amazing if you think about this.

But the problem with that is, which is where all these detox programs and everything that stuff most of the period doesn’t work, because they’re just for 1 week really, is that if you keep alcohol consumption, all you’re doing is your liver is trying to recuperate plus regenerate, but it’s always getting just like a hit on the head just about all the time back down, back down. So it will not be able to regenerate completely.

So therefore , cut down on your alcoholic beverages. Number four, alcohol lowers testo-sterone. Now testosterone is known as the body hormone or our muscle-building hormone within your body, and also as kind of a fat-burning hormone. Now I am not going to go into a lot more detail about it, but how does that will translate? Well, if you have more muscle mass in your body, it increases your metabolic rate, and as you have an increased metabolic rate, you will burn more body fat. So this has a big effect on your weight loss as well. As it prevents your testosterone, you can go into the gym, you can work out, but if a person drink alcohol, you will not have the exact same effect, because testosterone levels are usually lower, and therefore, you’re not able to build the same amount of muscle you might have done if you haven’t had any kind of alcohol.

Number five, alcohol raises your appetite. And that’s very interesting, because if you think about it, the majority of time, you don’t just drink alcohol, correct? You drink alcohol with your meals, with something with it. And alcoholic beverages has another thing, and that is it is a nervous system depressant, which means it has an effect upon your motor skills, on your thinking, on your focus, and all sorts of a sudden, you start eating more, plus you’re not that conscious, and then, oh yea, let’s have another beer, an additional shot, another this.

So if you’re sort of lacking the willpower plus the self-control of things, so in retrospect it not only stimulates you to eat more, but you’re furthermore not that much in control anymore. So I guess all in all, these five items should give you more reason than ever before to not drink alcohol anymore. If you’ve got problems with it, and I perform understand that sometimes you want a break, also because it somehow– it’s a reward for individuals. It’s a coping mechanism. It’s so many things and excuses to consume alcohol because of peer pressure and so on, I am aware that.

But understand one thing. You always have the choice. You’re the one who makes the choice of collecting that glass and drinking this, and I always think that someone whoms able to go into a bar and not drink alcohol is a much stronger character than someone who does. So I really hope you learned something, and because I believe it’s such an important topic, and am want to really get individuals to understand what alcohol does to their body, please share this video clip with as many people as you believe would benefit from this information, because, to be honest, me as a trainer, I obtain asked all of the time, exactly why is I not losing weight?
